I think that there is a huge difference between running an adventure activity and actually facilitating one. Some may think that I’m stuck on semantics and that these words both mean the same thing, but I don’t think so-- there is actually an incredibly important distinction.

Climbing on Mount Lemmon, Arizona

 

In December 2005 we decided to drive the 3800 km trip from Haliburton, Ontario to Tuscon, Arizona. The trip was amazing as we hiked to the base of the Grand Canyon, rode our mountain bikes in the Catalina mountains and rock climbed on Mount Lemmon which oversees Tucson. However, we decided that the 50-hour drive was just too much to warrant a return trip...but we would be willing to consider other options in the future. Suggestions anyone?

According to a 2010 Kaiser Family Foundation report kids are now soaking in 10 hours and 45 minutes per day of media in a mere 7 hours and 38 minutes. Of course the only way this can happen is through multitasking such as listening to their favourite tunes while browsing the Internet with the TV on in the background. I know we live in a media saturated age, but this statistic was a bit of a shock to me.

Telemarking or Telemarketing?

"I know what you are doing. You’re telemarketing!"             There is a huge difference between telemarking and telemarketing. The first involves skis and the second involves an annoying sales person that calls you on the phone just when you sit down to eat.)

Who has pleasant thoughts when they think of the word “lecture”? I know I don’t. When I think of the word I have images of a dry professor standing at the front of a large lecture hall droning on in a monotone voice. Can you say “BORING”?

The Washington Post recently published an article called “Colleges looking beyond the lecture” where it speaks of the lecture being under attack in higher education...
